Your Next Steps Toward the Prospectus
1

Check πŸ”—the Key Dates for Prospectus Announcement & Presentation.Β Don't wait for the last day. You should present your prospectus as soon as passing comps. The earlier you present the prospectus, the more time you have for IRB and data collection.

2

Complete the prospectus manuscript (first 3 chapters of the dissertation). Use this πŸ”—template.

Pay special attention to the Methods section. If you use qualitative research design,Β

3

Once you complete writing, use this πŸ”—Manuscript Checklist to ensure quality and completeness (includes general + chapter-specific lists).

4

Submit your prospectus manuscript to me for review. Follow πŸ”—this tutorial to use Track Changes in Word. Adhere to πŸ”—APA 7th edition. Expect up to a 2-week turnaround per revision. Do NOT move to Step 5 until I confirm you're ready. Follow the instructions in the πŸ”—Manuscript Checklist for your manuscript submission.

A. If you submit the revised manuscript, you need to submit three documents:

B. If you submit the manuscript for the first time, you only need to submit two documents:

5

Once your manuscript is approved by me, email it to your committee members and use a scheduling tool (e.g., πŸ”—When2Meet or πŸ”—Doodle) to find the date and time for your prospectus presentation. Be sure to πŸ”—adhere to all key dates. Schedule a 2-hour block. Per the university policy, prospectus must be presented in person.

I'm unavailable in the mornings; the earliest time I'm available for the prospectus presentation is after 12 p.m.Β

6

Once scheduled, fill out the πŸ”—Prospectus Announcement Form and send it to me for signature. To complete the form, you'll need to contact Damien Lawrence (πŸ”—dlawrence@gsu.edu) to reserve a room.

7

In the Abstract section of the form, use the πŸ”—Structured Abstract. Use future tense in Methods and move directly to Implications. See this example: πŸ”—Guide_Abstract and Keywords.pdf.

8

Watch the πŸ”—Tutorial on Filling Out the Prospectus Form to ensure all information is accurate.

9

I will sign the form. You do NOT need the full committee's signature before Step 10.

10

To obtain the department chair's signature, email both (1) my signed announcement form and (2) your prospectus manuscript to Damien Lawrence (πŸ”—dlawrence@gsu.edu). He'll conduct an initial review and forward them to Chair Jennifer Esposito (πŸ”—jesposito@gsu.edu).

11

Damien will help obtain the remaining signatures. Watch for the college-level announcement email and begin preparing your 20–30 minute prospectus presentation. If you don't hear anything two weeks after your submission to Damien, feel free to follow up with Damien (cc me) via email.

12

Once your prospectus is publicly announced in the college, send out a calendar invite to all committee members to ensure your prospectus is on everyone's calendar. Your calendar invite should include date and location, and attached a copy of your manuscript.Β

13

Three days before your prospectus presentation, send out an email reminder to all committee members of the date, time, location, and the most updated version of your manuscript.Β
